Well-respected industrial designer to be awarded Lifetime Achievement Award for Industrial Design.

The Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD) at the University of Bridgeport is proud to announce that it will honor alumnus David Kaiser, president of Spark Design LLC, when it awards him a Lifetime Achievement Award for Industrial Design on Saturday, April 30.

The tenth annual awards event and alumni gathering for industrial design majors will also showcase work by industrial design majors who are graduating in May 2016. The evening is hosted by alumnus Art Landi ’74.

Awards will be presented to students in the following categories: Best Portfolio, Best Thesis, Academic Achievement, and IDSA Merit Award.
“We’re particularly excited to honor David Kaiser this year. His contributions to Industrial Design are many and his 40-year track record in the industry is inspirational,” said SASD Industrial Design program Chairman Richard Yelle.

About David Kaiser:

The Industrial Design program at the University of Bridgeport gave David Kaiser the skills to work in several different product categories; from toys to medical products to consumer products. He is currently president of Spark Design LLC, a product-development consultant firm in Meriden, Connecticut, that specializes in creative product-design solutions. Some of the clients include: Stanley Tools, Fisher Price, Bose, Gillette and Coca-Cola. He has also worked with Crayola, Black and Decker, Johnson and Johnson, and Staples.

Kaiser remains actively involved with the university’s design school, acting as an IDSA Merit Awards judge responsible for selecting a senior to receive the yearly IDSA Merit Award and to represent SASD at the IDSA Northeast Conference. Kaiser has also been a juror for many design competitions, including the Consumer Electronics Innovation Awards. He holds more than 80 design and utility patents and has been awarded over 20 design awards.
