A walkathon organized by University of Bridgeport students on behalf of the Center for Women and Families of Eastern Fairfield County has raised nearly $2000 to support the nonprofit.

Held on April 15, the three-mile walkathon attracted more than 100 participants, including Connecticut First Lady Cathy Malloy. The event was held in conjunction with National Sexual-Assault Awareness Month.
All proceeds from the walk will be used to support the Center’s 24-hour bilingual domestic violence and rape hot lines, emergency shelter, community education, victim advocacy, counseling services, and other programs. The Center serves the communities of Bridgeport, Easton, Fairfield, Monroe, Stratford, and Trumbull.
“We are so appreciative to everyone at the University of Bridgeport for their advocacy and support! The proceeds raised will help us provide added support to the 38 percent increase of sexual assaults victims we are working with in the Bridgeport area,” said the Center for Women and Families Chief Executive Officer Debra Greenwood.
