The University of Bridgeport (UB) Music & Performing Arts Program will present its 13th annual Holiday Concert at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 6 at the Arnold Bernhard Center.
The UB Chamber Singers, Fusion Ensemble, Knights’ Ensemble, Percussion Group, and University Singers will join in the musical evening featuring holiday favorites, jazz standards, and eclectic winter music.
Highlights include Leroy Anderson’s Sleigh Ride and selections from West Side Story, performed by the Knights’ Ensemble; a marimba solo by senior and Bridgeport native Thomas Velez; jazz, R & B, bossa nova, and reggae selections by the ever-versatile Fusion Ensemble, as well as Kenneth Jennings’s evocative Noel: Christmas Eve 1913, featuring the University Singers and sophomore and Bridgeport native Josue Bustamonte on viola. Additionally, the University Singers, who will be making their debut with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony on March 3, 2018, will present a selection from that program: the “’Sanctus” from Gabriel Fauré’s sublime Requiem.
The ensembles are directed by music faculty Chris Coogan, Jeff Jones, Mark Vickers, and Frank Martignettj.
Tickets are $5 and free parking is available.
“We are always thrilled to share the growth of our ensembles with the community each year. Performers onstage at UB span the entire University population, in all its rich diversity,” said Frank Martignetti, UB’s Director of Music & Performing Arts. “We are particularly proud of the growth of our resurgent concert band, the UB Knights’ Ensemble, due to the hard work of students and Mark Vickers, an alumnus and member of our faculty. Our Fusion Ensemble is marked this year by an awe-inspiring infusion of freshman talent, skillfully evoked by Professor Coogan. Finally, we are thrilled that the UB choruses will be performing with the Greater Bridgeport Symphony for the first time since the 1980s, and glad to share a preview of that concert with you! Come experience all of this and more!”
