Jeffrey Johnson, an associate dean at the University of Bridgeport and renowned classical music reviewer for some of the nation’s biggest media outlets, will host “Evening at the Opera” on WMNR, from 8 p.m. to 10:30 p.m. Tuesday, September 25, 2018.

The broadcast launches a busy season for Johnson, an innovative public scholar and prolific critic of music.
Starting in November, Johnson returns to the Main Stage at the Klein Auditorium in Bridgeport to host lectures in advance of three Greater Bridgeport Symphony Orchestra performances. They will be held on:
- November 1: Sibelius, Symphony No. 2)
- December 8: (Schumann, Piano Concerto)
- April 13, 2019: (Gustav Holst, The Planets)
From January to March 2019, he will appear as a special lecturer at the Quick Center in Fairfield, CT, prior to three Met Opera Live-in HD transmissions. His pre-concert lectures begin at 12:15 p.m. on:
- January 12, 2019: (Cilea, Adriana Lecouvreur)
- February 2, 2019: (Bizet, Carmen)
- March 2, 2019: (Donizetti, La fille du regiment“)
About Jeffrey Johnson:
Jeffrey Johnson is associate dean at the College of Arts & Sciences at the University of Bridgeport and former director of the University’s music program. His criticism has appeared in the Los Angeles Times, Hartford Courant, the Boston Globe, and other leading media outlets. He is read and followed by an international fan base.
Since 2015, he has hosted shows on a range of classical music on WMNR. He also produces the station’s weekly show Evening at the Opera, which airs each Tuesday from 8 p.m. until midnight. He is the author of four books on music published by Greenwood Press and Dover Publications.
Johnson earned his BA from Ithaca College, an MA from Eastman School of Music, and a PhD in Musical Composition from Boston University.
