The stoves are gleaming, modern new tables and chairs await diners, and thanks to a successful competition to give it a name, the University of Bridgeport’s much-anticipated food court, The hUB @ Marina Hall, will open at 12:15 p.m. sharp on Thursday, September 22.
The official grand opening celebration will feature a salmagundi of international meals and favorite American dishes, make-your-own milkshakes, the presentation of a $500 prize to the students who thought of food court’s new name, an appearance by celebrity chef Mai Pham, and plenty of free samples.
“We’re really excited. Now we can offer the students and staff more food choices than ever, and we think they’ll really enjoy the innovative recipes that use the highest-quality ingredients. The food court’s extended hours and flexible dining options should accommodate everyone, too – from students who live on campus to commuters taking part-time classes. We’re confident this will be a huge hit,” said Jennifer Currier, general manager of Sodhexo Dining Services at UB.
The hUB @ Marina will house three new dining stations that are sure to please all tastes: Ultimate Baja stars south-of-the-border fare. Grill 155 will serve up ’burgers, sandwiches, and other traditional favorites. And Star Ginger’s Southeast Asian-style noodle dishes, soups, curries, and other vibrant offerings from Vietnam were created by chef Mai Pham, whose recipes have been featured in bon appétit magazine and the Food Network, among other publications. The hUB also will have a make-your-own milkshake and smoothie machine.
The hUB @ Marina will be open Monday-Friday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday/Sunday from 2 p.m.-11 p.m. Meals can be purchased for take-out or eaten at The hUB, which has been upgraded with new seating and wireless Internet.
Meals can be purchased with UB dining dollars, cash, or by credit card for take-out, or they can be enjoyed at The hUB, where full wireless and comfortable seating are available.
University President Neil Salonen will launch Thursday’s opening with an official ribbon cutting. He then will award a $500 prize to the group of students who proposed The hUB @ Marina as the new food court name after participating in a naming competition that was held in early September.
But everyone “will be treated like a winner,” said Currier, when Sodhexo passes out samples from the dining stations as well as new snack and beverage products from Frito Lay, Pepsi, and Tropicana.
