Necessary Voices, the University of Bridgeport lecture series on the arts and ideas, will inaugurate its 2014-2015 season with a poetry reading by Connecticut poet John Surowiecki at 4:30 p.m., Thursday, September 25.
It will be held in the Schelfhaudt Gallery of Arnold Bernhard Center, 84 Iranistan Avenue.
Surowiecki is the award-winning author of plays, poetry, and books, including Barney and Gienka, Further Adventures of My Nose, The Hat City after Men Stopped Wearing Hats, Watching Cartoons before Attending a Funeral, and My Nose and Me, which won the Poetry Foundation’s first Verse Drama Prize.
During the 1960s, Surowiecki worked as a journalist for the Bridgeport Post-Telegram (now the Connecticut Post) and has won numerous prizes and fellowships for his poetry and plays. He grew up in Meriden, Connecticut.
All Necessary Voices events are free and open to students, faculty and the public.
