Calling on men (and others) to “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” on April 21

UB men strap on heels during to raise awareness of sexual assault and support the Center for Family Justice

The University of Bridgeport Civic Engagement Club invites men in the community to join students for Walk a Mile in Her Shoes®, an international campaign to stop sexual assault, rape, and gender violence on Friday, April 21, 2017.

The walk at UB will support the Center for Family Justice, a nonprofit that provides services to victims of violence and abuse in six Fairfield County towns.

Men are encouraged wear women’s high-heel shoes.

The one-mile walk begins at noon at the John J. Cox Student Center on the UB Campus, 124 Park Avenue, Bridgeport. In-person registration begins at 11:30 a.m.

An opening ceremony will feature a performance by Future Leaders of Hip Hop and presentations from the Bridgeport Police Department and the UB Dean of Students.

The walk is cosponsored by Walk a Mile in Her Shoes, UB Office of Campus Activities and Civic Engagement, and the UB Student Programming Board.

“Women go through a lot. This is a way to literally walk in their shoes,” said UB student and JohnErick Bonilla, one of the event organizers. “Everyone is welcome to participate and show their support. The Center for Family Justice does a lot in the community, so this is a way to give back and raise awareness about domestic and sexual assault that happens in every community, including ours.”
