A native New Yorker, Melissa Parades ’18 included only one out-of-state university during her college application process: the University of Bridgeport. She credits the UB mug that doubled as a pencil holder on the desk of one of her high school teachers, along with an open house she attended with a friend, as the impetuses to apply. But it was Accepted Students Day that sealed the deal. Attending with her father – who up until that moment had shown zero enthusiasm for any particular school – daughter and dad were swayed by the faculty, the student ambassadors, and most notably the simulation business class with Professor Greenspan. At UB, Melissa knew she’d not only feel at home and learn learn what she needed to succeed in the business world, but she’d make her parents proud. On the cusp of her senior year at the Trefz School of Business, Melissa and her parents agree: Mission Accomplished.
My UB Story
The University of Bridgeport is where I have gotten to know myself and come out of my shell. I have experienced culture and community, tapped into self-confidence I never knew I had, and developed leadership skills that I know will serve me well in my first job and beyond.
UB has taught me how to be independent, to believe in myself, to uplift others, to support valuable causes, and to make things happen not only for myself but for the improvement of the lives around me.
I absolutely love UB, and I want to not only share my love with other students but inspire them to have pride for our school. It’s why I made sure to get involved in ways that I know can make a difference. Now that I will be in my last year as an undergrad, all I want is to go out with a bang and do something remarkable for my campus. I want to leave UB knowing that I helped my classmates love their experience here as much as I have.
