The University of Bridgeport will host its 101st Commencement at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 7 the Arena at Harbor Yard.
Nearly 1,470 degrees will be conferred to the Class of 2011, who this year will “go green” with eco-friendly caps and gowns made from 100 percent consumer-recycled plastic bottles.
They will be joined by members of the Class of 1961, who will be honored as Golden Knights on the 50th anniversary of their graduation.
A separate Commencement ceremony will be held for 131 health science degree candidates on May 22.
Alumna Marian L Heard ’63, founding chairman and CEO of the Points of Light Institute, will deliver the Commencement address on May 7 and will receive an honorary Doctorate of Human Letters. Ms. Heard created the Points of Light Institute to engage millions of volunteers nationwide to support former President George H.W. Bush’s campaign of civic engagement.Dorothea E. Brennan, a member of the Connecticut Board of Governors of Higher Education, will be a guest speaker.
Jose Ricardo Aguilar will deliver the senior class Commencement address.
A total of 929 candidates for graduate degrees and 537 candidates for undergraduate degrees will walk at Commencement.
