Necessary Voices, the popular series about writers and thinkers, continues on Thursday, October 18 with West Hartford Poet Laureate James Finnegan on “Poetry in the Real World.”
The poetry reading and lecture begin at 4 p.m. at the Gallery located in the Arnold Bernhard Center at the University of Bridgeport, 84 Iranistan Avenue, Bridgeport. It is free and open to the public.
Finnegan’s poems have appeared in Ploughshares, Poetry Northwest, The Southern Review, The Virginia Quarterly Review, and other literary magazines.
Finnegan is the founder of New Poetry, an Internet discussion list related to contemporary poetry, and president of the Friends and Enemies of Wallace Stevens, a nonprofit devoted to promoting literature and preserving the cultural legacy of poet Wallace Stevens. With Dennis Barone, he edited Visiting Wallace, an anthology of poems related to Wallace Stevens.
