UB announces Commencement speakers and honorary degree recipients for 2017

Ceremonies to be live streamed as Ramon E. Peralta Jr. '93 addresses graduates on May 6 and health sciences students receive degrees on May 7

University of Bridgeport announced today that alumnus Ramon E. Peralta Jr. ’93, president and creative director of Peralta Design, will address the Class of 2017 and receive an honorary degree at Commencement on Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Ceremonies begin at 10 a.m.

Dr. Dennis Goodman, a cardiologist and director of integrative medicine at NYU School of Medicine, will be the speaker when approximately 140 health sciences majors receive graduate degrees at 11 a.m., Sunday, May 7, at the Arnold Bernhard Center on the UB campus.

On April 11, Kazuji Akatsu, father of UB Trustee Shintaro Akatsu ’88, will be awarded an honorary Doctorate of Humane Letters during a special service at the Shintaro Akatsu School of Design (SASD).

More than 1,500 graduates will receive degrees during UB’s 107th Commencement.

About this year’s graduation speakers:

Kazuji Akatsu is chairman of Lemon Gas, the energy company previously known as Kamata Corporation. He has received top honors from Japan’s Ministries of Environment, Economy and Trade, and International Trade and Industry. An author of two books, Making Your Dream a Reality and Life Begins at 84, he is also well known for his popular newspaper column, “My Life.”

Dr. Dennis Goodman MD, FACP, FACC, FCCP is an internationally recognized expert on natural cardiovascular treatments. He is the author of K2, the Missing Nutrient for Heart and Bone Health and numerous articles. He has served as a visiting teaching professor in South Africa, Asia, and Europe.

Ramon Peralta spent his early career helping others to launch their own companies before he decided to branch out on his own and founded Peralta Designs in 2009. His Shelton, CT, company specializes in strategic marketing, corporate identity, and branding campaigns. Clients include start-ups to Fortune 500 companies.
